The SR20DET is a 2.0 L (1,998 cc) straight-four four-stroke gasoline engine that is part of the SR family of engines from Nissan, produced from 1989 to 2002. It is a turbocharged version of the SR20DE engine and is a replacement of the CA18DET engine. Like with the outgoing CA18DET, the SR20DET was a turbocharged intercooled engine in top form.
The SR engine is a series of 1.6 L (1,596 cc), 1.8 L (1,838 cc) or 2.0 L (1,998 cc) straight-four, four-stroke gasoline engines manufactured by Nissan. It has an aluminium head and block with steel sleeves and has a DOHC 4-valve design, with variable valve timing on select models.
Although this engine has 1.6 L of displacement, it has more aggressive camshaft specifications. It manages to make 173 hp (129 kW). The camshafts from this engine are considered to be an upgrade for SR20VE owners. From 1997 to 1998, Nissan produced 500 limited-edition SR16VE N1 engines. These engines made 197 hp (147 kW).
The name 180SX was originally in reference to the 1.8 liter displacement CA18DET engine used in the chassis. There IS an SR20DE with 125PS. (look for example in the G20 article) and this engine is sometimes called SR20De! And the SR20DE with 140/150/160PS is the GT-Spec. version.
