Founded in 1969, the musical theater program at CCM is the oldest bachelor's degree program of its class in the United States. [36] It is consistently ranked as one of the nation's top musical theater programs and is presumed to be the most selective undergraduate program at the University of Cincinnati. [37]
The program continues to be the largest mandatory cooperative education program at a public university in the United States and is annually ranked as one of the top 5 [4] programs in the country. Additionally, this program has proven so successful in preparing graduates for their careers that more than 1,000 schools offer forms of it today.
All of the institutions are named "Concordia"—a reference to the Latin title of The Book of Concord, the collection of Lutheran confessions—and all include professional church work programs as part of their curricula. The CUS was formed in 1992. In 2011, 28,421 students attend Concordia University System institutions. [1]
