Typically, twin tailbooms support the tail surfaces , although on some types such as the Rutan Model 72 Grizzly the booms run forward of the wing.
In most cases a clone is made in part by studying and reverse engineering the original executable, but occasionally, as was the case with some of the engines in ScummVM, the original developers have helped the projects by supplying the original source code—those are so-called source ports.
They concluded that a conventional glider nose and forward fuselage was required, hence a pusher engine and, to avoid the drag of a pylon engine mounting, a twin-boom layout. The ITS-8, designed to have a gliding performance competitive with contemporary intermediate and high performance unpowered machines, followed these specifications.
