The Waterford county football team represents Waterford in men's Gaelic football and is governed by Waterford GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association.The team competes in the three major annual inter-county competitions; the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Munster Senior Football Championship and the National Football League.
Waterford re-entered the league in the 1935–36 season along with Sligo Rovers. Waterford won the Shield in their first season. Waterford won the FAI cup for the first time in their history in 1937 beating St. James Gate and also won the Shield. The club were league runners up in 1937–38 season and again in the 1940–41 season.
Ephraim "Ephie" Fitzgerald [1] (born 1961) is an Irish Gaelic football manager who played as a right corner-forward at senior level for the Cork county team. He has been manager of the Waterford county team since 2021.
On 31 January 2022, Waterford County Board delegates voted on the restructuring of the entire intermediate football championship system following a review process. It was decided to establish an all-county six-team premier intermediate football championship for 2023. [4]

Waterford IT GAA is the GAA club of the Waterford Institute of Technology, established in 1981. Its hurling team play in the Fitzgibbon Cup and Waterford Crystal Cup as well as Higher Education Leagues. Its football team plays in the Sigerson Cup and McGrath Cup as well as Higher Education Leagues. Its camogie team competes in the Ashbourne Cup.
