The Harriet Tubman Memorial, also known as Step on Board, is located in Harriet Tubman Park in the South End neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. [1] It honours the life of abolitionist Harriet Tubman. It was the first memorial erected in Boston to a woman on city-owned property. [2]

The idea of a memorial to women was first discussed in 1992 in recognition of the under-representation of women among Boston's statues. [1] A collaboration between the Boston Women's Commission, the Commonwealth Avenue Mall Committee and the Massachusetts Historical Society, [2] supported by Angela Menino, the mayor's wife, developed it over the next twelve years.

The memorial features a bronze relief set in granite. The relief is approximately 5.5 ft. tall and 11 ft. wide. [1] It depicts William Blaxton (left) greeting John Winthrop (right) and others, including Ann Pollard, two Native Americans, and an allegorical female representing Boston.
