The station is owned by the Manship family of Baton Rouge, Louisiana , through Mobile Video Tapes, Inc., which frequently does business as KRGV-TV Corporation.

In 1987, KRGV became KRGE when Daytona Group of Texas, Inc. acquired the station. Daytona, which was controlled by Norman S. Drubner, also owned KRIX 99.5 FM. [9] The addition of the FM station was a last-ditch effort to maintain KRGV/KRGE's long-running Top 40 format, which finally went by the wayside in 1988 with a format flip to oldies. [10]
The station presently broadcasts seven hours of locally produced newscasts each week (with one hour each on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays). In September 2010, KNVO started broadcasting local news in high definition. [13] As of 2012, KNVO was the second highest-rated newscast in the market, behind ABC affiliate KRGV-TV (channel 5). [14]
Network was formerly carried on KVLY-DT2 until January 13, 2015, when KXJB-TV converted into Cozi TV affiliate KRDK-TV upon Major Market Broadcasting assuming ownership of that station and Gray transferred that station's former CBS and syndicated programming inventory as well as local newscasts to KVLY-DT2.
