Gordon's Bay, much like the surrounding areas is known for its abundance of marine life, with fishing boats and plentiful areas to rock fish. The Gordon's Bay fishing club is the official hub for fishing activity in the area, with many active members in the community that participate in fishing events and practices very frequently.
Swimming, fishing, campgrounds and day-use areas are available within the park, as well as sail boarding due to a wind funnel created by the surrounding mountains, Mount Wesley to the north and Mount Arrowsmith to the south. The park maintains 6 km of walking trails within its perimeter.
Gordon's Bay was a municipality from 1961 to 1996. The town council assumed a coat of arms, designed by Schalk Pienaar, in July 1962, [6] and registered it with the Cape Provincial Administration in November 1962 [7] and at the Bureau of Heraldry in November 1988.
The campground is open from April to October with limited off-season camping in March. Park usage has increased over the decades with the expansion and addition of facilities from 54,211 day users and 14,183 campers in 1980 [9] to 88,451 day users and 52,564 campers in 2015. [12]
