Robert Cleckler Bowden (/ ˈ b aʊ d ə n /; November 8, 1929 – August 8, 2021) was an American college football coach. Bowden coached the Florida State Seminoles of Florida State University (FSU) from 1976 to 2009 and is considered one of the greatest college football coaches of all time for his accomplishments with the Seminoles.
Four of those coaches also won conference championships: Don Veller captured three as a member of the Dixie Conference; Bowden captured twelve, Fisher three, and Norvell one as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Bowden is the leader in overall wins and seasons coached with 304 wins during his 34 years as head coach.
The 2009 Florida–Florida State game marked Bobby Bowden's thirty-sixth against the Gators in thirty-four seasons as the Seminoles head coach; it was also his last, as he retired at the conclusion of the 2009 season. He finished his head coaching career with a 17–18–1 record against the Gators. [14]
