Duncan Lee Hunter (born May 31, 1948) is an American politician. He was a Republican member of the House of Representatives from California's 52nd , 45th and 42nd districts from 1981 to 2009. Hunter was the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee during the 108th and 109th Congress .
Hunter was born in San Diego, California, [15] the son of Helynn Louise (née Layh) and Duncan Lee Hunter. [ 16 ] [ 17 ] He graduated from Granite Hills High School in El Cajon, California , in 1994, and San Diego State University , where he earned a B.S. in information systems in 2001.
