Shaarei Tzedec Congregation (also known as the Markham Street Shul) is an Orthodox Jewish synagogue located at 397 Markham Street in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Shaarei Tzedec congregation was founded in 1902 [ 1 ] and is the westernmost of the three Orthodox synagogues left in Downtown Toronto .

City Shul is a Reform synagogue in downtown Toronto, founded in October 2012 and led by Rabbi Elyse Goldstein. From 2017 to 2022, it was located in the same building as Bloor Street United Church.

The Knesseth Israel Jewish Synagogue, Maria Street at Shipman Street, (1911) was designed by James Augustus Ellis (architect) of the firm Ellis and Connery. [5] It was built with the bartered labour and donated funds of the founding members and their families. [4] The building was dedicated on September 8, 1912, and services began in 1913. [4]
[9] A restoration committee was established that secured grants and held fundraising events. By 1982, enough money was raised to restore the building and renovate the social hall. [9] In 1979, the Kiever Synagogue became the first building of Jewish significance to be designated a historical site by the province of Ontario.
