Granulation tissue is new connective tissue and microscopic blood vessels that form on the surfaces of a wound during the healing process. [1] Granulation tissue typically grows from the base of a wound and is able to fill wounds of almost any size. Examples of granulation tissue can be seen in pyogenic granulomas and pulp polyps.
Mohs surgery is the gold standard method for obtaining complete margin control during removal of a skin cancer (complete circumferential peripheral and deep margin assessment - CCPDMA) using frozen section histology. [1] CCPDMA or Mohs surgery allows for the removal of a skin cancer with very narrow surgical margin and a high cure rate.

In the form of fibres trapped in a wound, alginate is readily biodegradable [15] and can be rinsed away with saline irrigation. Subsequent removal therefore, does not destroy granulation tissue, making dressing change virtually painless. The ease of biodegradation is exploited in making alginate sutures used in surgical wound closures.
