Cottonwood Lake National Wildlife Refuge is a National Wildlife Refuge in McHenry County, North Dakota. It is managed under J. Clark Salyer National Wildlife Refuge. This is a limited-interest national wildlife refuge. The FWS has an easement on private property allowing it to manage wildlife habitat, but the land remains private property.
The recreation area is located immediately downstream of Gavins Point Dam and Lewis and Clark Lake. It is named for Cottonwood Island, an original island located in the Missouri River, for the large groves of Cottonwood Trees that dominate the area.
