The Point Montara Light is a lighthouse in Montara, California, United States, on the southern approach to the San Francisco Bay, California approximately 25 miles south of San Francisco. History [ edit ]
Point No Point Light, located in the Chesapeake Bay off the eponymous point several miles north of the mouth of the Potomac River, was constructed as part of a program to add lighted navigational aids in a thirty-mile stretch of the bay between Cove and Smith Points. [2] [3] [4]
The lighthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. [3] The Fresnel lens and the flag staff pole were removed many years ago to the Humboldt Bay Maritime Museum located near Eureka, California. [4] The Punta Gorda Light was known as the "Alcatraz of Lighthouses" because of its remote location and difficult access. [4]
