The Cadillacs were an American rock and roll and doo-wop group from Harlem, New York, active from 1953 to 1962. The group was noted for their 1955 hit " Speedoo ", written by Esther Navarro, which was instrumental in attracting white audiences to black rock and roll performers.

It reached number 3 on the U.S. R&B chart and number 17 on the U.S. pop chart in 1955. [2] The song was featured on their 1957 album, The Fabulous Cadillacs. [3] The lead vocal was by Earl Carroll.

The original song "My Girl Lollypop" was written by Robert Spencer of the doo-wop group The Cadillacs. Notorious record company executive Morris Levy agreed to purchase the song from Spencer. Although not involved in writing the song, Levy and alleged gangster Johnny Roberts listed themselves as the song's authors.
Earl "Speedo" Carroll (November 2, 1937 – November 25, 2012) was the lead vocalist of the doo-wop group The Cadillacs. [1] The group's biggest hit was "Speedoo", which with a minor spelling change became Carroll's subsequent nickname.

That initial record listed no writer credit, but later releases of The Cadillacs' recording—and several subsequent covers of the song by other artists—give sole writing credit to Esther Navarro; other mentions of the altered composition list Navarro as having revised René's song.
