The Baxter Theatre Centre is a performing arts complex in Rondebosch, a suburb of Cape Town, South Africa. The Baxter, as it is often known, is part of the University of Cape Town; it is also the second largest performing arts complex in Cape Town, after the Artscape Theatre Centre.
It tells the story of the people of District Six in Cape Town, South Africa who were forcibly removed from the area during apartheid. It opened at the Baxter Theatre, Cape Town in April 1987 [2] and ran until 1990 with more than 550 performances. It also toured internationally and was reprised at the Baxter in 2002. [3] [4] [5]
