Doughoregan Manor (doe-RAY-gen) is a plantation house and estate located on Manor Lane west of Ellicott City, Maryland, United States.Established in the early 18th century as the seat of Maryland's prominent Carroll family, it was home to Founding Father Charles Carroll, a signer of the United States Declaration of Independence, during the late 18th century.
Homewood is a stone house located off of Homewood road in Ellicott City in Howard County, Maryland. Homewood was built on the Carroll family's Doughoregan Manor for Robert Goodloe Harper Carroll (1839-1915), who served in Company K of the Confederate 1st Virginia Cavalry. He served with his younger brother Albert, who died in battle. [4]
The house is situated along Old Frederick road, the turnpike road between Baltimore and Frederick, Maryland. The property also bordered Centennial Lane, a road built in 1876 to connect Ellicott City to the Burleigh Manor property. Older single-story and a two-story slave buildings were situated on the site with a cupola barn.
In 1987, the wife of former County Executive Cochran listed Burleigh Manor and 15 surrounding acres for sale for $750,000. [23] In 2012, the home was purchased by the family of Lisa Davis and Dr. Lawrence J. Cheskin [Wikidata]. [24] Today, the family manages a small animal sanctuary and "eco-retreat" at the site. Other streets were laid and 250 homes were built on half acre lots. In 2002, Grey Rock Community, Inc. found a partner to build a retirement community on the 50-acre plot and the Miller land was donated to the effort. Carroll Lutheran Village at Westminster, MD was the partner in establishing the community.
