Rawlins is a city in Carbon County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 8,221 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Carbon County. [6]
Carbon County was organized in 1868, one of the five original counties in Dakota Territory. [3]Originally about 3,400 square miles (8,800 km 2) near the center of Wyoming, Carbon County was once part of the Spanish Empire, then part of the Republic of Texas (1835-1845) and part of the State of Texas until 1852 when the northernmost part of that state's claims were ceded to the US government.
The George Ferris Mansion in Rawlins, Wyoming is one of the most significant Queen Anne style buildings in Wyoming. Built during 1899–1903, the house's design was published by the Knoxville, Tennessee architectural firm of Barber and Klutz in an architectural pattern book. The house was built for George and Julia Ferris.
Zoned campuses include Rawlins Elementary School (grades K-5), Rawlins Middle School (grades 6-8), and Rawlins High School (grades 9-12).
