The 2024–25 South Pacific cyclone season is an ongoing weather event in the South Pacific Ocean to the east of 160°E. The season officially started on November 1, 2024, and will end on April 30, 2025; however a tropical cyclone could form at any time between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, and would count towards the season total.
The South Pacific tropical cyclone basin is located to the south of the Equator between 160°E and 120°W. [1] The basin is officially monitored by the Fiji Meteorological Service and the New Zealand MetService, while other meteorological services such as the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, Météo-France as well as the United States Joint Typhoon Warning Center also monitor the basin. [1]

On September 28, the JMA upgraded 20W into a tropical storm, naming it Krathon, a replacement name for Mangkhut. It then intensified into a Category-1 typhoon, heading towards Sabtang, Batanes. Shortly after, the typhoon began its rapid intensification and in two days, the system reached its peak intensity equivalent to a Category-4 super typhoon.
