gmac1975. Saw an orthopaedic consultant yesterday who confirmed, after an xray, that the osteoarthritis in the big toe joint is getting worse. He suggested two different types of surgery: a fusion of the bone or a replacement of the joint. I am leaning towards the latter although I don't know much about it and the consultant admitted the ...

Ugh. I had my big toe joint replaced as well (and a lapidus and Achilles lengtheni. That was 6 months ago. Even with Physical Therapy and continuing to do exercises to bend toe up and down, I don't have much improvement in big toe movement. When I go for walks, it is the top of my big toe that hurts.

  7. A broken (fractured) toe is an injury normally caused by either dropping a heavy object on the toe or stubbing the toe hard. Generally it takes quite a lot of force to break a bone. However, toe bones are more vulnerable because they are small bones and because they are on the edge of the body so are more likely to be injured in the first place.

The joint could last like it is for 2 months or 2 years. I cancelled the operation. Wondering if anyone else has the same problem was their artificial toe joint, now needing to be fused. I do know that these artificial joints do not last. 1st one was done in 2009 cant remember the date of its replacement. 0 likes, 13 replies

Posted 8 years ago. I had my big toe joint replaced 6 months ago, at the same time I had a lapidus and an Achilles tendon lengthening. I have gained a bit of mobility in my big toe, but not much. And the joint is more painful now than it was before my surgery. I do exercises to bend my toe up and down, and they are still painful 6 months later.

Posted 5 years ago. Hi, to answer your question, walking feels more normal, now, a year after double bunionectomy. Although I had 2 big toes fused, there is a little bit of give while walking. Thanks to strong painkillers, I had minimal pain afterwards, and after 3-4 weeks, was off all painkillers.
