La Grange was founded in 1827 when the Oldham County seat was relocated from Westport at the suggestion of Major William Berry Taylor. The new town was named for Château de la Grange-Bléneau, the French country estate of Gilbert du Motier, the American Revolutionary hero better known as the Marquis de Lafayette, who had visited the area in 1824. La Grange is served by three Public schools which are operated by the Lenoir County Public School system. They include North Lenoir High School, E.B. Frink Middle School and La Grange Elementary School. Higher education is provided through a local branch of Lenoir Community College. The community was home to La Grange Colored High School.
Villa La Grange. The private library of Guillaume Favre (1770-1851) contains about 5,600 works, in over 12,000 volumes, on history, literature and ancient languages, still in their original setting in Parc La Grange. They may be consulted in the main Bastions site of the Bibliothèque de Genève. Tours of the library are held each year in May. [10]
The La Grange Village Hall, also known as the Lyons Township Hall, is a historic building at 53 S. LaGrange Road in La Grange, Illinois. Built in 1900, the building houses the offices of the village of La Grange and Lyons Township. It historically also hosted most of La Grange's community events and is home to an American Legion post.
The central library, LaGrange Memorial, is located in LaGrange, Georgia. THRL is a member of PINES, a program of the Georgia Public Library Service that covers 53 library systems in 143 counties of Georgia. On July 31, 2021, the new Linda Sokol Francis Brookfield Library opened across the street at 3541 Park Avenue. The original Carnegie library site currently serves as the Library's parking lot and Pollinator Garden.
