When creating Vegeta, Toriyama originally intended for him to be a short-lived antagonist and second-tier character, with little influence to Dragon Ball's story. Toriyama intended for Goku to simply kill him at the climax of their first battle, and portrayed him as simply and one-dimensional as he should have been considering this.
Frieza stands over the incapacitated Goku, and offers Vegeta a chance to kill him to become his second-in-command. Vegeta refuses, transforms into Super Saiyan Blue, and attacks Frieza. Vegeta and Cabba are initially equally matched, the latter revealing his inability to become a Super Saiyan and requesting Vegeta to teach him. This seemingly enrages Vegeta as he assumes his Super Saiyan to mercilessly beat Cabba to an inch of his life while threatening to kill everyone he holds dear if he loses.
The evil Saiyan escapes his prison cell and attacks Goku, Vegeta and Future Mai. Goku and Vegeta attack the evil Saiyan, but his aura drives Goku berserk, causing him to attack Vegeta. Fu reveals that the evil Saiyan's name is "Cumber", and explains that his energy can turn people into a berserk state by just touching his aura.
