The S&W Models 908, 908s, and 909 are "Value Series" variants of the Model 3914, Model 3913, and Model 3904, respectively, featuring aluminum alloy frames and steel slides. Like the 910 and 915, the 908, 908s, and 909 incorporate certain machine operations and part changes to reduce costs.
Smith & Wesson significantly dropped the price and changed the polymer frame color to light grey with matching slide. The model designation of these pistols were SW40V and SW9V, with V being equated with Value. Later, V models were introduced with black polymer frame and stainless steel slides. Simultaneously, S&W introduced the SW40C and SW9C.
The Model 1 + 1 ⁄ 2 had three issues. The first two (known as the first and second issues) were "tip-up" revolvers with the barrel release catch located on the side of the frame in front of the trigger, while the third (known as the "Model 1 + 1 ⁄ 2 Single Action Revolver") was a "top-break", with the barrel release catch located on the top of the frame, just in front of the hammer.
