The Vidette Times is a local newspaper in Porter County, Indiana. [1] It began in 1842 as an occasional, the Republican. In 1866 it came under new ownership as The Porter County Vidette. In 1871, a rival, The Valparaiso Democratic Messenger emerged. In the 1920s, The Vidette and The Messenger merged to form The Vidette-Messenger.
The paper was founded on June 18, 1906, as The Lake County Times.Its founder, Simon McHie, was a native of a small town along the Niagara River in Canada.In 1933, the name was changed to The Hammond Times, and it became an afternoon paper serving Hammond, Whiting, and East Chicago.

The cemetery is three-quarters of a mile north on the edge of a sand ridge. The first recorded burial was Robert, the son of Joseph Bailly, in about 1827. Subsequently, the site has been considered a family graveyard. Burials of those outside the Bailly family are numerous. Today, they are all unmarked, including Swedish residents of the area.

Town of Pines is the home of Indiana State Road 520, a 0.2-mile-long (0.3 km) state highway connecting U.S. Highway 12 to U.S. Highway 20. It is the shortest state highway in Indiana. The Central Avenue station of the South Shore Line , also known as Pines station, served Town of Pines from 1927 until its demolition in the 1970s.

Gary Hoisington was born in Derry, New Hampshire, on July 16, 1950. [4] [5] After a childhood rife with bullying and mistreatment, he left home when he was 16. [4]He enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley, but did not graduate, and later moved to San Francisco, and then Los Angeles; it was there, in the early 1970s, when he began using the name "Gary Indiana".
