Atlanta Symphony Hall is the home venue of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. It is located within the Woodruff Arts Center at 1280 Peachtree Street in Atlanta , Georgia , USA. The venue has a total capacity of 1,762 seats on three levels: 1,074 in the orchestra section, 349 in the lower balcony and 339 in the upper balcony.
The Woodruff campus sits on 12.25 acres (4.96 ha) with a planned expansion to 18.25 acres (7.39 ha). Currently, the campus includes 906,000 square feet (84,200 m 2) of exhibition, educational and performance space, plus a 200,000-square-foot (20,000 m 2) garage located beneath the village.
In 1970, Shaw founded a choir, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus. In 1988, Yoel Levi became music director and principal conductor. Under him, the orchestra played Summon the Heroes composed and conducted by John Williams at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Centennial 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
