Wayne State College (WSC) is a public college in Wayne, Nebraska. It is part of the Nebraska State College System and enrolls 4,202 students. The college opened as a public normal school in 1910 after the state purchased the private Nebraska Normal College (established 1891).
The Wayne State College Arboretum (127 acres) is located on and around the main campus of Wayne State College, 1111 Main Street, Wayne, Nebraska. It is an affiliate of the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum. The Arboretum consists of the main campus, Nature Center, and Wildcat Fitness Trail.
Wayne State University was established in 1868 as the Detroit Medical College by five returning Civil War veterans. The college charter from 1868 was signed by founder Theodore Andrews McGraw, M.D., a University of Michigan graduate (B.A. 1859). [ 7 ]

In 1913 the high school began offering some college-level courses, and in 1917 the new two-year Detroit Junior College began to operate in the building. In 1923 this would become the four-year degree granting College of the City of Detroit, one of the main precursor institutions of today's Wayne State University.
Wayne State began its football program in 1912. In 1970, the team played in a bowl game; it would not do this again until 2007. From 1999, when it joined the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, through 2018, the team went 93–128–0 (.421) . Through the 2018 season, Wayne State sports an all-time record of 425–485–40 (.468). [1]
