This day lodge replaces the Dollar Cabin, and also serves as the headquarters for the Sun Valley Ski School. It is similar in construction to the newer day lodges at the big mountain. The interior of the original Sun Valley Lodge has been remodeled twice during Holding's ownership, in 1985 for the golden anniversary and again in 2004.
Sun Peaks Resort is an ski resort located in Sun Peaks, British Columbia, Canada, 56.6 km (35.2 mi) northeast of Kamloops [1]. The summit of the ski area is at an elevation of 2,080 m (6,820 ft), with an 882 m (2,894 ft) vertical rise from the base of the peak.
The north-facing slopes are served by two surface lifts: a T-bar and a rope tow, and the main lodge and parking area are at mid-mountain. The area is open only on weekends and the average snowfall is 100 inches (250 cm). [4] The T-bar made its debut in late January 1969, [1] [7] and the A-frame lodge was built in 1971. [8]
Sun Valley Lodge was specifically designed to display its outdoor ice rink with Sun Valley Resort founder Averell Harriman asking architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood to make the rink a focus. [1] The resort and its rink opened in 1936, and in 1937, Sun Valley Lodge, Union Pacific and Sun Valley Skating Club created Sun Valley on Ice.
