Cobourg (/ ˈ k oʊ b ɜːr ɡ / KOH-burg) is a town in the Canadian province of Ontario, located in Southern Ontario 95 km (59 mi) east of Toronto and 62 km (39 mi) east of Oshawa. It is the largest town in and seat of Northumberland County .
Cobourg Transit is a fully accessible community transit system that serves the Town of Cobourg, operating with a fleet of diesel buses. [3] The buses are separated into two areas on the interior, the front having low floors with seating reserved for accessibility access if needed, and poles to help riders safely stand.
With the railway line abandoned, the town again hired Baird in 1842 to survey the route for a plank road to Rice Lake. The newly formed government of The Canadas formed a Board of Works for these sorts of local improvements, and both Cobourg and Port Hope applied for permission to build a route, with Port Hope's plan winning approval. Cobourg station is served by most trains on Via Rail's Toronto-Ottawa and Toronto-Montreal routes, though a small number of express trains pass through the station without stopping. As of October 2023 the station is served by 6 to 7 trains per day toward Ottawa, and 3 to 4 trains per day toward Montreal and 8 trains per day toward Toronto. [2]

The first of the objects of incorporation was "to acquire, restore and preserve the ancient limestone building known as 'The Barracks', located in the Town of Cobourg in the County of Northumberland, and to dedicate it to public use."
