Over the course of ten years, he worked his way up to restaurant management and hotel operation, and at age 21 was appointed General Manager of Food and Beverage Services [1] at the Palace Hotel in Madrid.
The hotel was declared Bien de Interés Cultural in 1999. [7] Starwood moved the hotel to its Westin Hotels division on March 1, 2000, renaming the property The Westin Palace Madrid. [8] In 2005, Starwood sold the hotel to Host Marriott as part of a package of 38 international hotel properties, for $4.1 billion. [9]
