Pender Harbour (ḵalpilin in she shashishalhem) is a harbour on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast, on the east side of Malaspina Strait. [1] The name Pender Harbour also refers collectively to the surrounding unincorporated communities of Madeira Park, [2] Kleindale, [3] Irvines Landing, [4] and Garden Bay, [5] within the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD).
Madeira Park is an unincorporated community in the area of Pender Harbour on the Sunshine Coast of southwestern British Columbia, Canada. It is named after the pioneer Jose Gonzalos, a native of the Madeira Islands who settled in the area in the early 1900s.
The Poets Cove Resort was built on an ancient First Nations village site. [4] The provincial government's 2007 settlement with the Tsawwassen First Nation included hunting and fishing rights on and around Pender Island—an arrangement to which the Sencot'en Alliance objected, saying those rights are theirs under the 1852 Douglas Treaty.
