Stewart Iron Works is an American ironworks plant in Erlanger, Kentucky. It is one of the region's oldest manufacturing firms and at its peak was the largest iron fence maker in the world. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] Stewart's is the second-oldest iron company in continuous operation in the United States. [ 3 ]
The production of pig iron was one of Kentucky's earliest industries. A major producer of iron since 1791, Kentucky ranked third in the U.S. in the 1830s and 11th in 1865. [ 4 ] Estill County in particular was one of the first areas in the United States to experience early industrialization, with iron mining and smelting beginning in 1810.
The Bourbon Iron Works, near Owingsville in Bath County, Kentucky, date from 1791. The works was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. [1] It was the first of six blast furnaces built in this area for the smelting of iron ore. Only the blast furnace stack survives. [2]

When it was completed on October 19, 1923, it featured a continuous rolling method to produce steel sheets, the first of its kind in the nation. Armco later purchased the old Ashland Steel Company, followed by the Norton Iron Works and the Old Iron Furnaces. In 1920, Armco employed 3,600 but just eighteen years later, that had increased to 5,500.
Spindletop Hall, [2] located at 3414 Iron Works Pike in Lexington, KY, is the former home of Pansy Yount, wife of Miles Franklin Yount of the Yount-Lee Oil Company.It is currently the home of the University of Kentucky's staff, faculty, and alumni club, which was founded in 1962.
