Chautauqua (/ ʃ ə ˈ t ɔː k w ə / shə-TAW-kwə) is a town and lake resort community in Chautauqua County, New York. [4] The population was 4,009 at the 2020 census. [ 2 ] The town is named after Chautauqua Lake .
Hanover Center – A hamlet southeast of Silver Creek on County Roads 89 and 93. Irving – A hamlet on NY-5 and US 20 on the northeast town line. The community was first called "Cattaraugus" and later "Acasto" and part of the community was called "La Grange" after the Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette who lived at La Grange in France . The Bell Tower landmark was re-constructed in the early 2000s by Forestville Central School. A barn or carriage house located at 29 Lodi Street is the oldest standing wooden structure in northern Chautauqua County. Long Point State Park (on Chautauqua Lake) is a 360-acre (1.5 km 2) state park [2] located in the Town of Ellery, near the hamlet of Maple Springs in Chautauqua County, New York. The park is located on a short peninsula on the east side of the lake and can be reached on Route 430 .
