Ole Singstad was born at Singstad farm in the Lensvik area of Rissa Municipality (now part of Orkland Municipality in Trøndelag county), Norway.He was the seventh of nine children born to Knut Jacobsen Singstad (17 May 1831 – 24 November 1906) and Anne Mikkelsdatter Auset Singstad (10 July 1843 – 30 April 1947).
