The San Diego Model Railroad Museum is a museum in San Diego, California, that focuses on the heritage of railroading through model railroads. It was founded in 1982. The museum is located on the lower level of Casa de Balboa in Balboa Park. [1] [2] At 27,000 sq. ft., it is the largest model railroad museum in North America.

The museum's renovation of the depot won an award from San Diego's historic preservation society, Save Our Heritage Organization. [ 13 ] Next to the depot is a display train consisting of saddletank steam locomotive 0-6-0ST Mojave Northern Railroad #3, a Pacific Fruit Express reefer car, and a Southern Pacific Railroad caboose.
Tenants included the Model Railroad Museum, the San Diego Hall of Champions, and the San Diego Men's Art Club (forerunner of the San Diego Art Institute). In 1978, the building was condemned as unsafe and was temporarily evacuated, but the San Diego Art Institute moved back in after sprinklers were installed.
