The first of the family to combine the two names was the schoolmaster Robert Bruce Lockhart (1858—18 Nov 1949), born at Montreal in Upper Canada and a graduate of the University of Edinburgh, who was the son of Robert Arthur Lockhart (1832–1904) and Annabella Wilson (1833–1888), both of whom had been born in Glasgow and died in Edinburgh.
On 2 September 1918, in Mussoorie, a hill station in India, Lockhart married Margaret Amy Campbell, a daughter of Sir Robert Neil Campbell, commander of the Bengal Medical Service. [ 25 ] [ 26 ] Their daughter Mary Mavora Lockhart was born in 1919, and a son, Norman Neil Campbell Lockhart, born in 1925.
