Lamont Coleman (May 30, 1974 – February 15, 1999), known professionally as Big L, was an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer. [1] Emerging from Harlem in New York City in 1992, Big L became known among underground hip-hop fans for his freestyling ability.
Wilson played Lamont through the run of the series, and became the star when Redd Foxx walked off the show in 1974 over a salary dispute with the producers and his character was written out for the rest of the season. Foxx returned the following year, and the pair worked together until 1977 when the show was cancelled.
