According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 42.94 square miles (111.2 km 2), of which 42.71 square miles (110.6 km 2) (or 99.46%) is land and 0.24 square miles (0.62 km 2) (or 0.56%) is water. [4] It contains the town of Kingman in the southwest along Indiana State Road 234.

Van Buren Township is one of eleven townships in Fountain County, Indiana. As of the 2020 census, its population was 2,919 and it contained 1,306 housing units. [3]
Riverside was originally called Fountain City, and under the latter name was established in the 1850s when the Wabash Railroad was extended to that point. [3] The post office was established as Riverside in 1872, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1946.
