Identifying AI-assisted edits is difficult in most cases since the generated text is often indistinguishable from human text. Some exceptions are if the text contains phrases like "as an AI model" or "as of my last knowledge update" and if the editor copy-pasted the prompt used to generate the text together with the AI response.
In August 2023, an editor known as Coin945 created 24 known articles on video games that were generated entirely by AI before being blocked from the site. The majority of these were redirected or merged for failing WP:N, but still have accessible page histories.
A lot of the content currently in Wikipedia:WikiProject AI Cleanup/Guide is copied from or paraphrasing Wikipedia:WikiProject AI Cleanup#Editing advice. Even outside of identifying possible AI-generated text, many of these phrasings go against the Manual of Style, or even against the encyclopedic purpose of Wikipedia. Some words like "delve" are also common, due to OpenAI outsourcing part of its training to Nigerian workers, at which "delve" is commonly used in business English.

We shouldn't, no. On top of the ethical concerns, there's the issue that AI art is often pretty inaccurate, while misleading the user into thinking it is a real photograph or illustration.
