Since 1884, the Mayor of Plano had been serving two year terms. The term length was changed to 3 years in 2006, and again to 4 years in 2011. [1] Since elections for city council members are held in both Collin County and Denton County, the voting results from the two counties are combined for the purpose of this article.
Plano City Council elections are held in odd-numbered years, with Places 2, 4, 6, and 8 beginning in 2013, and Places 1, 3, 5, and 7 beginning in 2015. After redistricting in 2021, the Dallas and Richardson portions of the district were removed, as well as much of Plano and Frisco. The Richardson portion of the district was transferred to District 32, while the Plano, Dallas, and Frisco portions were given to District 4.
