Hyatt Regency is a brand of hotels under the Hyatt banner. The brand contains 211 locations in 189 cities over 40 countries, [ 1 ] [ 2 ] and is one of the company's 14 hotel brands overall. [ 2 ] It tends to cater to business travelers.
Hyatt has expanded its footprint through a number of acquisitions, including the acquisition of AmeriSuites (later rebranded Hyatt Place) in 2004, Summerfield Suites (later rebranded Hyatt House) in 2005, Two Roads Hospitality in 2018, Apple Leisure Group in 2021, Dream Hotel Group in 2023 and Standard International in 2024.
In 1999 Hyatt purchased the hotel for $107 million, [6] calculated to be the highest cost per room ever paid in Canada, [7] and renamed it Park Hyatt Toronto. In 2014, Hyatt sold the hotel to Toronto-based Oxford Properties , for $90 million USD, [ 8 ] with an encumbrance that the hotel remain operated as a Hyatt for at least 40 years.

Metro Hall was nonetheless used temporarily while City Hall was refitted to accommodate the large number of councillors. The empty council chamber was used as a temporary homeless shelter in 1999 at the behest of then city councillor Jack Layton, and was converted to a 3-1-1 call centre in 2007.
