The first Europeans to reach what is now West Tennessee were part of an expedition led by Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto, who in 1541 became the first Europeans to reach the Mississippi River south of present-day Memphis.
Goshen (/ ˈ ɡ oʊ ʃ ən / GOH-shən) is a city in and the county seat of Elkhart County, Indiana, United States. [6] It is the smaller of the two principal cities of the Elkhart–Goshen Metropolitan Statistical Area, which in turn is part of the South Bend–Elkhart–Mishawaka Combined Statistical Area .

The three regions are geographically and culturally distinct. [9] East Tennessee's landscape is dominated by the Appalachian mountain chain, including the Great Smoky Mountains on the eastern border of the state, the ridge-and-valley region where East Tennessee's principal cities (Knoxville, Chattanooga, and the Tri-Cities) are located, and the rugged Cumberland Mountains.
The largest county is Allen (657 sq. mi., 1,702 km 2) and the smallest is Ohio (86 sq. mi., 223 km 2). [3] According to the Constitution of Indiana, no county may be created of less than 400 square miles (1,000 km 2), nor may any county smaller than this be further reduced in size, which precludes any new counties.
