The Convair B-36 "Peacemaker" [N 1] is a strategic bomber built by Convair and operated by the United States Air Force (USAF) from 1949 to 1959. The B-36 is the largest mass-produced piston-engined aircraft ever built, although it was exceeded in span and weight by the one-off Hughes H-4 Hercules.

In September 1953, the 95th began training with the B-36 Peacemaker bomber while the 97th flew the B-50 Superfortress. [5] On 12 February 1959, the last operational B-36J Peacemaker left Biggs AFB where it had been serving with the 95th Bombardment Wing. The 95th then transitioned to the B-52B Stratofortress and the KC-135A Stratotanker.
