The road was originally part of the historic Dixie Highway which came into existence in the early 1900s. The Dixie Highway would be the main north-south road through the area until it was replaced by U.S. Route 1 (US 1) a few blocks to the east in the 1920s.
There is a project planned by the cities of Pembroke Pines, Miramar and the Mobility Advancement Program (MAP Broward) to connect the two segments. East of SR 824's terminus with US 1, the road continues into a residential area for a few blocks to Southwest 14th Avenue, and is named Moffett Street for its duration. [5]
