The first NPE was promulgated by the Government of India by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1968, the second by Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1986, the third by Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao in 1992, and the fourth by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2020.
NAAC was established in 1994 in response to recommendations of National Policy in Education (1986). Deemed university, or deemed-to-be-university, is an accreditation granted to higher educational institutions in India by the Department of Higher Education. [1] As of 14 November 2023, the UGC lists 124 institutes which were granted the deemed to be university status. [2]
