Historically, Gilmer County was the northwesternmost of the fiercely Democratic, secessionist counties of West Virginia. It voted Democratic in every election from 1872 to 1968 – in 1928 when there was large-scale anti-Catholic voting throughout Appalachian West Virginia it was Al Smith ’s strongest county in the state. Job's Temple is a historic Methodist church building located near Glenville, Gilmer County, West Virginia. It was built between 1860 and 1866, and is a building constructed of poplar log, measuring 18 feet by 24 feet. The building was renovated between 1928 and 1936. Adjacent to the church is Job's Temple Cemetery, containing 122 graves. [2]
