Twin Lakes is a village in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, United States, along the Illinois-Wisconsin border east of U.S. Highway 12, incorporated in 1937. With nearly 1000 acres of surface water , the twin lakes of Mary and Elizabeth have drawn vacationers to numerous resorts as well as ice harvesters in the days of icebox refrigeration.
The village completed a switch to Lake Michigan water in October 2019. This was the largest infrastructure project in village history, costing $48 million. [10] On April 4, 2023, a referendum was held in the village to determine Home rule status. [11] The result of the referendum was to reject home rule status. [12]
The village center is located on the east shore of Pistakee Lake, and south shore of Nippersink Lake and Fox Lake, three connected water bodies that form part of the Chain O'Lakes system, flowing southwest via the Fox River to the Illinois River. The village limits extend north in a sinuous manner all the way to the Wisconsin border.
