Silver Lake State Park is a 2,936-acre (1,188 ha) public recreation area bordering Lake Michigan and Silver Lake, four miles (6.4 km) west of Mears in Oceana County, Michigan. The state park is composed of mature forest land and over 2,000 acres (810 ha) of sand dunes .
The Silver Lake Recreation Area is a park for people of all ages, and is located northeast of the lake. [6] Holiday Park Campground is a large private campground on the southern end of the lake, just off of US 31. It has boat access and has RV camping lots surrounding the lake. Silver Lake Dam is a dam located on the Dead River 30 miles (48.3 km) upstream of Marquette, Michigan. [3] It is the farthest upstream of five dams on the river and had no electricity generating facilities. [4] The dam failed on May 14, 2003, and forced the evacuation of 1800 people.
