Spoon River Poetry Review (SRPR, ISSN 0738-8993) is an American literary journal of poetry based in Illinois during most of its existence. It publishes a combination of Illinois-connected, national, and international poetry. [1] It began in 1976 as the Spoon River Quarterly, but dropped the "Quarterly" name in 1993. [2]
Submissions of finished books to the Nonfiction Prize are welcomed from previously unpublished U.S. authors. The winner is announced in April of each year. [7] Graywolf also oversees publication of winners of the Academy of American Poets' Walt Whitman Award, [8] as well as every third winner of the Cave Canem Poetry Prize. [9]
Each year, the Younger Poets Competition accepts submissions from American poets who have not previously published a book of poetry. Once the judge has chosen a winner, the Press publishes a book-length manuscript of the winner's poetry as the next volume in the series. All poems must be original, and only one manuscript may be entered at a time.
