William Drew "W.D." Washburn, Sr. (January 14, 1831 – July 29, 1912) was an American politician. He served in both the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate as a Republican from Minnesota. Three of his seven brothers became politicians: Elihu B. Wilcomb E. Washburn (1925 – 1 February 1997) was an American historian. Washburn was born in 1925. [2] He received a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College, and the same year received his PhD in the History of American Civilization from Harvard University. For three years he taught history at the College of William and Mary.
