The Cataract Falls Covered Bridge is a covered bridge that spans Mill Creek in Lieber State Recreation Area, Owen County, Indiana. Built in 1876 by the Smith Bridge company of Toledo, Ohio, [2] it was at one time one of the most famous and photographed covered bridges in the United States. Cagles Mill Lake, also known as Cataract Lake, is a reservoir located near Cataract, Indiana, in Lieber State Recreation Area, in west central Indiana on the borders of Putnam and Owen counties. It is alimented from the north by Mill Creek and drains out through to the Eel River to its south, which then makes its way to the White River.
The circuit is located due south-west of Hazelbrook, and a track leading east after Cataract Falls links the South Lawson Waterfall Circuit with the South Hazelbrook Waterfall Circuit, which consists of Terrace Falls, Bedford Pool and Victor Falls. [2] [5] Three small waterways run along the circuit, the Lawson, Cataract and Ridge Creeks. [2] [5]
The Cataract Falls Trail is one of the most popular trails. Many of the trails are also open for dog walking and horseback riding, while bicycling is only allowed on fire roads. Portions of the seven District reservoirs are open for hiking , biking , horseback riding , fishing , and picnicking .
Accessed from a 0.1 kilometres (0.062 mi) track from the southern carpark of the South Lawson Waterfall Circuit, Cataract Falls is the only multilevel fall in the circuit, and the tallest one too.
