Santana formed in 1967 in San Francisco and was originally known as the Carlos Santana Blues Band. The first members were Carlos Santana (lead guitar), Tom Fraser (rhythm guitar), Sergio "Gus" Rodriguez (bass guitar), Gregg Rolie ( Hammond organ , lead vocals), Michael Carabello (percussion) and Danny Haro (drums).

"The Game of Love" is a 1964 song by Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders, first released as a single from the band's titular album in January 1965 in the United Kingdom, followed by the United States one month later as "Game of Love". The song reached Number 2 on the UK Singles chart and Number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 that year.
After hearing the song, Santana decided to have Thomas record the final version. [1] [3] Matt Serletic (who produced Matchbox Twenty's debut album Yourself or Someone Like You in 1996) produced the song, and it was released from Santana's 1999 album Supernatural. Thomas originally had George Michael in mind to sing the song. [4]
